"NO-FEE REGISTRATION DAY”
On Monday, April 23, the National Library of Mongolia in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture launched a one-day campaign of free registration to celebrate World Book and Copyright Day. Free registration for all readers had quick results. The lobby of the Library was flooded from morning till evening with readers who were eager to obtain a library card without fee. 351 new readers were "recruited”. Not so bad for one day. And why did the idea come about? Unsurprisingly, it's all about boosting and promoting reading among the population, with the Library announcing its aim to keep the number of readers as high as possible during the summer, which is traditionally regarded as a "low season” among the librarians. The administration encourages people to spend significant amounts of time with books at our Library and plans to organize no-fee registration days annually.
World Book and Copyright Day is organized by UNESCO. The event has promoted reading, publishing and copyright since 1995.
