National Library Celebrates the Mongolian Script Day
On May 4, 2018, the National Library celebrated the Mongolian Script Day (officially called as the National Script Day) with children’s chorus, military band and attendance of celebrity intellectuals and politicians. The ceremony was held in front of National Library of Mongolia at the statue to Dr. Rinchen, an outstanding Mongolian scholar and dissident who spent the latter years of his life struggling to make Mongolian Script official state script again. Addressing the audience, Mrs. Ichinkhorloo, a Director of National Library of Mongolia, said that, Mongolian Script is one of Genghis Khan's greatest legacies and it’s a duty of every Mongolian to learn and use the script. Also, the Library was hosting an exhibition on documents and manuscripts written in Mongolian script.
This important cultural event has been observed annually on the first Sunday of May since the President Bagabandi issued a decree to promote official use of Mongolian Script in 2003. Mongolia is to convert to dual-script system of Mongolian and Cyrillic by 2025.
